I drink coffee differently because of you.
The way I taste it, the way I think about it, even the way I smell it.

That’s not the only thing I do differently because of you.
I read differently. All the books you recommend that find their way to my shelves.
I look at the stars differently. Tracing their shapes with my fingertip across the sky.
I think differently. It’s like my eyes are open to a world I never knew existed.
I go out side more. I love it because you have shown me how.
I am more courageous. I desire to try things and go places I would never have thought to before.
I learn differently. I want to be able to challenge you the way you do me. I have a brilliant side too.
I listen differently.
        And talk
               And sleep.
                      And laugh.
                           And believe.
And yes, even cry.

You have changed everything.
For I know, the idea of you is a part of me.
You have influenced me thousands of times and barely do I even realize it.

And if you leave and I take nothing else,
Some fifty years down the road I will sit on my front porch and know,

I drink coffee differently because of you.
